WHO'S THIS COURSE FOR?
7 Steps to Fingerstyle Guitar gives you the tools your need to understand, practice, and develop your fingerpicking technique. It’s an “All in One” course, which means that the course focuses on different aspects of the fingerstyle guitar.
Who’s this course for?
This course is perfect for beginner fingerstyle players.
Who’s a beginner fingerstyle player, Marco?
A beginner fingerstyle player is a guitar player who is new to fingerstyle. If you have been playing guitar for a while and you know basic chords and the strumming technique, but you know very little about fingerstyle, then you can consider yourself a beginner fingerstyle player. So, a beginner fingerstyle player is not a beginner guitar player.
Is this course for absolute beginners?
If you are completely new to guitar (If you just unboxed your very first guitar), this course is not for you.
STEP 1
ALTERNATE FINGERING
PLUCKING WITH INDEX AND MIDDLE FINGER
The first step to a better fingerstyle technique is to learn how to pluck the strings with just two fingers.
We call this approach “Alternate Fingering Technique.”
With the alternate fingering technique, you pluck the strings with the index and middle finger continuously.
This technique is mainly used for single notes, which works great for scales, melodies, and fingerstyle exercises.
Below:

2.Practice scales with the alternate fingering technique.

STEP 2
THUMB TECHNIQUE
HOW TO PLUCK WITH THE THUMB
In fingerstyle guitar, the thumb is responsible for playing the lower strings of the guitar. Mainly the 4th, 5th, and 6th string.
For you who don’t know, the lower strings of the guitar have a deeper sound and are mainly used to play the lower end of a chord.
However, countless exceptions can be put in place!
Let me show you the basic thumb technique and some of the most common ways of using this technique creatively.

FINGERSTYLE CHORDS
HOW TO PLAY CHORDS WITH THE
FINGERSTYLE TECHNIQUE
Fingerstyle chords are probably the most fun thing to learn! I say that because I have been playing guitar for over twenty years, and I NEVER GOT BORED OF THEM!
What are fingerstyle chords? To put it simply, fingerstyle chords are reorganized chord shapes that only work with the fingerstyle technique.
With the fingerpicking technique, we decide which notes of a chord we want to play. This approach allows you to simplify, change, and reorganize all the basic and advanced chords that we play on guitar.

STEP 4
FINGERSTYLE MELODY
UNDERSTAND RHYTHMIC VALUES
AND IMPROVE YOUR RHYTMIC SKILLS
If playing fingerstyle chords is probably the most fun thing, then playing the fingerstyle melody is the most rewarding.
There is nothing more amazing than being able to play a melody on the guitar.
Think about this: You just learned the chord progression of your favorite song! That’s great! However, if you don’t sing the melody and the chords, all you have is chords.
With fingerstyle melodies, you can combine chords and melody simultaneously and play your favorite songs without having to “sing” along.
In this module, you will learn how to play melodies with the fingerstyle technique. You will also practice songs that combine chords and melody so that you can familiarize yourself with this amazing approach!

FINGERSTYLE RHYTHM
UNDERSTAND RHYTHMIC VALUES
AND IMPROVE YOUR RHYTMIC SKILLS
I know! Most people skip this module. Whey would be wanna focus on rhythm? Right?
The thing is, there is rhythm in everything we play, so knowing more about rhythm, rhythmic values, and how rhythm works will inevitably improve not only your fingerstyle technique but every aspect of your playing.
In this module, you will learn the most important rhythmic values and how to use them to create powerful fingerpicking exercises.
Of course, this is just a tiny introduction to a giant world which we should indeed explore.

CLASSICAL APPROACH
CLASSICAL MUSIC TO TRANSFORM
YOUR FINGERSTYLE TECHNIUQE
I played classical guitar and classical music for ten years. I got my degree in classical guitar, composition, and music theory back in 2005 and let me tell you something: Classical music is probably the best way to develop an impeccable fingerstyle technique.
Of course, I don’t want you to become a classical guitar player! However, we can take a couple of exercises from classical guitar and use them on the acoustic guitar to develop our fingerstyle technique.
The exercises below are simple yet effective classical-like studies that will introduce your fingers and ears to a more sophisticated sound.
