EACH DAY A NEW FINGERSTYLE TECHNIQUE
DAY 1. THE ALTERNATE FINGERING TECHNIQUE
Let’s take the alternate fingering to the next level.
With this melody, the index and middle fingers will pluck the strings continuously. This movement is the essence of the alternate fingering technique.
The beautiful classical-like melody combines four-note patterns that will also develop your left-hand technique, improving your ability to play two or more notes on the same string.
DAY 2. FINGERSTYLE AND BEAUTIFUL CHORDS
In this lesson, we will learn a beautiful chord progression in the key of G major. The goal is to make the chords sing!
We can make a chord sing by changing its singing voice. Let me explain.
The chord progression is G | Em | C | D |.
Instead of playing a static G major chord, we will switch between a G major and a Gmaj7 chord. The different note played on the first strings makes the chord much more melodic!
DAY 3. SIMPLE MELODY IN E MINOR
It is time to learn a simple yet beautiful melody!
In today’s lesson, you will learn a lovely melody in the key of E minor. We will put together chords and melody in shapes that are not used that often. This approach allows you to build new muscle memory and train your fingers to play different chord shapes.
We will also learn how to play a melody in thirds. This way of playing is great when you harmonize a simple melody and give more character and fullness to the notes.
DAY 4. HOW TO SIMPLIFY CHORDS EASILY
Today we will use the popular chord progression from the Canon in D. The goal is to learn how to simplify chords.
We already learned how to make chords simple in Fingerpicking Guitar in 7 Days Volume 1. However, this chord progression is a little bit more challenging.
Remember that, thanks to the fingerpicking technique, we can decide which notes of a chord we want to play. We can, for example, simplify challenging chords such as five strings chords or even bar chords by removing some of the notes and pluck fewer strings.
If this approach sounds awesome, it can also be a double sward.
Yes, we can make chords simple; however, playing a chord with fewer notes will inevitably change his shape, which will take time to memorize.
DAY 5. BLUESY MELODY AND THE PENTATONIC SCALE.
Let’s try something awesome. Bluesy melodies are some of my favorite things to play.
Bluesy melodies are super fun to play since they combine harmonic and melodic elements that are quite close to the Blues, however, they break out from the common twelve-bar blues.
This melody is in the key of E minor and you will love it!
DAY 6. AN AWESOME CLASSICAL PIECE
Let me show you this awesome classical piece in A minor.
This piece is perfect for developing different aspects of your fingerpicking technique. We will focus a lot on the thumb movement and simultaneous plucking.
Enjoy the lesson.
DAY 7. COMBINE ALL THE TECHNIQUES!
Let’s put together all the techniques in one awesome exercise!
