Super Easy Pentatonic Melody in A major
For Beginners
Hey guys, Marco here!
Today I want to share with you this super easy Pentatonic melody in A major I wrote specifically for beginners.
The Pentatonic is one of the most used scale in music and guitar players (as well as any other musician) use it to improvise, solo and write music.
In this fingerstyle guitar lesson I want to focus on the A major pentatonic, which I think sounds awesome! This easy Pentatonic melody you are about to learn is pretty catchy and musical and it is entirely played using the A major pentatonic scale.
There are two things that you really want to focus on when practicing this melody:
- Play the melody as evenly as possible. We are playing a 12/8 time signature shuffle rhythm. The easiest way to think about the 12/8 is by counting 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 (rather than the usual 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4).
- If you can, sing the melody while playing it. It will help you memorize the sound of the Pentatonic scale!
There is also a technical challenge that some of you will probably face when learning this pentatonic melody.
The Pentatonic is a five notes scale. The A major pentatonic scale has the following notes: A B C# E F# A. As you probably noticed, the D and G# are missing from the scale.
This unique characteristic makes the Pentatonic scale quite stretchy and difficult to play for some beginners.
Make sure you take things step by step and learn the stretchy part slowly.
I hope you get inspired guys!
Let’s get started.

The Pentatonic Scale
One of the most amazing thing about the Pentatonic scale is that is a very simple scale to memorize.
In this guitar lesson we will learn the A major scale and use it to create a beautiful, musical melody perfect for beginners guitar players.
I recommend you learn the A Pentatonic in different position but in this example I am going to show you what I think is the easiest major pentatonic shape in A major.
The Chord Progression
This easy Pentatonic melody is played over a chord progression in A major.
A – E – F#m – E – D then the second section A – E – D – A
