Most Common Fingerstyle Arpeggio

with Beautiful Chord Progression!

Hey guys, welcome to another super fingerstyle guitar lesson. I hope you are having a fantastic day and you are planning to practice your guitar things!

Today I want to show you what I think it is the most common simple fingerstyle arpeggio on guitar. This is the one of the first fingerstyle arpeggio I learned when I first started playing guitar.

I was 10 years old and one of the first exercise my guitar teacher gave me had this arpeggio! Don’t ask which exercise though, I really can’t remember.

There are two awesome things you will learn in this lesson.

A simple fingerstyle arpeggio that you can use almost on any chord progression. This plucking pattern will also help you improve your fluidity and finger dexterity.
A beautiful chord progression in D minor which we are going to learn in three different ways. The chord progression is very simple and beautiful. I am sure you are going to like it.

You are lucky! The most common fingerstyle arpeggio on guitar is also one of the most simple however there are few things that might challenge you depending on your level.

Let me tell you the two most challenging things you will find in this lesson.

We will be using all the plucking fingers from thumb to ring finger. Some of you probably never used the ring finger before.
It’s hard to play the pattern as evenly as possible. If you are planning to practice without metronome, record your performance to check if your timing is even.

As always take things step by step and learn one chord at a time. Spend time practicing the plucking pattern and don’t get bored! It takes time but the reword is priceless.

The Fingerstyle Arpeggio

The fingerstyle arpeggio is probably the first thing you want to start practicing.

There are different ways to practice a new plucking pattern but I find that the most effective ways is by focusing on the plucking hand only.

Mute the strings and start plucking the strings following the pattern. This common plucking pattern has been used on a ton of songs so you could already be familiar with it.

The Chord Progression

We will be working on a beautiful chord progression in D minor.

The awesome thing about this exercise is that I am going to show you three different ways of playing this chord progression so that you can keep challenging yourself.

The chords are: D minor, Bb major, C major and A minor chord.

Each chord progression will add different extensions.
