Basic Guitar Chords with Cool Sounding Voicing
Beginner Friendly
One of the question you guys ask the most is: ” When can I play different fingerstyle guitar chords for beginners? I am fed up of playing the same basic guitar chords all the time.
The answer is, “Now”
The thing that most beginners don’t know is that basic guitar chord can easily become “Amazing basic chords” all you need is just a couple of extra notes and playing using finger-picking technique.
In this guitar lesson I am going to show you an awesome and easy way to simply spice up chords. We will be playing basic chords such as G major, C major and E minor but you’ll see how different they sound.
The goal is to familiarize yourself with basic guitar chords played using different voicing.
I don’t know the exact definition of voicing in music but in my world the voicing is the highest note of the chord. The “Vocal note” or the note that “Sings”.
We can change the voicing of a chord to create a different sounding melody and make the chords more interesting and less static.
The awesome thing about voicing is that we can also change the voicing within the chord (and not only the highest note) in order to create different sounding chords.
Today I am going to show you how to transform basic guitar chords by changing some of their voicing.
We are playing in G major, one of the most friendly key for beginners and the chords we are about to transform are among the easiest chords you can play on guitar.
Overall this is a very creative fingerstyle guitar lessons for the guitar players who’s tired of playing the same static basic chords.
Enjoy this lesson guys.

The Chord Progression
We will be working on a simple chord progression in G major: G – C – Em – D
There are two things that you must follow in order to perform this exercise correctly.
- The chords must be playing using the plucking technique. Plucking the strings with your fingers allows you to select which string you need to play so that you can emphasize the different voicing.
- The bass note (root note of the chord) needs to ring out as you change the voicing. Make sure that changing the voicing doesn’t make the chord sound sloppy.
This exercise can be really challenging for certain beginners especially if you haven’t been playing guitar for long or if your fingers are not stretchy yet.
As always, take things step by step and play around with one chord only if you have to. Trying to play the entire chord progression is productive only if your technique is developed enough to play basic chords.
If you just unboxed your guitar, maybe it is better if you come back when you feel ready, but keep this lesson handy! I am sure you are going to love these chords.
