The Slide is a quite common Guitar Technique. Now, you don’t want to get confused with the Bottleneck Slide Technique which is the one used primarily in Blues Music with the Bottleneck on the little finger. The Slide Technique explained in this page refers to the easy Guitar approach where each note can be reached by sliding the finger towards the “landing” fret. Lot’s of Guitarists use this technique naturally, others, need directions and tips.
I find that the hardest part about the slide technique is the “landing fret”. You have to know exactly on which fret the finger will stop and, believe me, especially if you are a beginner, this is not an easy thing to do. You can slide with the index, middle, ring and little finger, however, I find that when I slide with the Ring Finger (3rd finger) I have much more control as I can use the other fingers to help me keep my hand much more steady and firm.
