Let’s get started with the first lesson. Let me show you what fingerstyle guitar is and what’s the difference between strumming and fingerstyle guitar.
What is Fingerstyle Guitar
One of the question I get asked the most is “what is fingerstyle guitar” and what’s the difference between strumming and fingerstyle.
Fingerstyle guitar or fingerpicking guitar is a guitar technique in which we play the strings with the right hand fingertips. We will be using the thumb, index, middle and ring finger to pluck the strings.
Fingerstyle guitar is indeed one of the most creative way of playing guitar. Once you become familiar with this technique, you should be able to play chords, melodies, percussive guitar and unique rhythmic patterns.
The Difference Between Strumming and Fingerstyle
The main difference between strumming and fingerstyle is that strumming is a very simple guitar technique in which we strum (brush) the strings with the finger or guitar pick up or down. This technique is perfect for beginners who want to play simple chords and songs.
With fingerstyle guitar you will pluck the strings with the right hand fingertips so the beginning could be more challenging than strumming as we have to decide which string to pluck.
How to Pluck the Strings
In the lesson 2 we will have a look at how to pluck the strings correctly. Go to the next lesson by clicking the link down below.
