Fingerstyle Rumba for Beginners
Easy Chords in A minor
Hey guys I hope you are having a fantastic weekend and you finally got time to practice some guitar stuff.
Today I am going to show you a very useful exercise I called “Fingerstyle Rumba” that will help you improve your plucking speed, control and musicality. Also, you will learn an awesome chord progression in A minor that sounds super Spanish.
The goal is to use this chord progression as well as the rumba rhythm to create a beautiful sounding melody mixed with chords.
There are two things that you will need to focus on when practicing this exercise.
- The melody is actually played with the thumb. This is kind of unusual as we usually play the melody with the fingers. It will take a while for you to master this approach so take it step by step.
- The fingerstyle rumba rhythm follows a repetitive patterns. Familiarize yourself with the 123 123 12 rhythmic pattern using on chord only. The 1 is always played with the thumb, the 2 with the middle finger and the 3 with the index finger.
I really love the Spanish Rumba and I believe that practicing this fingerstyle rhythmic pattern will help you improve your fingerstyle technique a lot.
As always guys, take things step by step. I recommend you start by learning the chord progression first then learn the melody played with the thumb before learning the full pattern.
Enjoy this lesson and have a super weekend.
